Welcome - Epilator Hair RemovalPeople from almost all cultures have plucked hair from their bodies for centuries, for a wide range of social, medical, religious and other reasons. Epilation is the permanent removal of hair, along with the part under the skin. About EpilatorsEpilators are electric gadgets which grasp several hairs at the same time, pulling them out. Because epilation can be painful the first time, some people have a professional wax, and then use an epilator when the hair grows back. Some people also use numbing cream. Released back in the mid-1980s, the first epilator was the 'Epilady', designed with a rotating coil spring. Once this was moved over the skin, the hairs became caught up in it and so were pulled out. This line of epilator is no longer widely available. The second kind of epilator was devised by Remington. Instead of a spring, the design incorporated a series of metal discs. This design has now been improved so that the head of a modern epilator is made up of metal plates whose tips move together and apart to create a tweezing effect as the device is moved over the skin. Hair caught between the plates is tweaked as the plates rotate away from the skin, and released as the plates separate. This creates a repeated cycle of gripping, pulling and extracting hair.
